The training consists of conferences and hands-on workshops on subjects related to Astronomy, with particular emphasis on Inquiry-led teaching activities and scientific projects that can be pursued in schools. The programme also includes a half-day at Teide Observatory, in which the participants will visit several telescopes and laboratories. Astronomers will explain how the telescopes work, the technology and instruments used on them, as well as the science and educational projects that are carried out with them.
The main objective of this school, organised in the framework of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias' Educational Project with Robotic Telescopes (PETeR) and the European projects Inspiring Science Education and Galileo Teacher Training Program, is to introduce teachers to the use of technology and different e-Learning resources, to help them bring science education to students in a more attractive way. The international flavour of the event also aims to offer teachers the opportunity to make links with colleagues and schools in other countries.
The course fee for Erasmus+ applicants is 70€/day. The summer school fee covers:
- All materials needed for the course
- Tuition fee for lectures, seminars and workshops
- a half-day visit to Teide Observatory, including transportation and dinner at the Observatory
The lectures and activities will be held at the IAC Headquarters, in La Laguna, Tenerife (the venue could be moved to a different location on La Laguna depending on the final number of participants). Here there is a map with basic directions: http://www.iac.es/info.php?op1=25&op2=125&lang=en
The most convenient airport is Tenerife North (TFN). There is a bus service from the airport to La Laguna or Santa Cruz: http://www.aena.es/en/tenerife-norte-airport/public-transport.html
