Bardeen Nobel Prizes presented at ISE Summer Academy 2016

During the ISE Summer Academy 2016 teachers and trainers enjoyed seeing not one, but two Nobel Prizes that belong to late John Bardeen. The Nobel medals were presented by William Bardeen, an American theoretical physicist at Fermilab and son of John Bardeen. William gave a talk on his personal perspective of John Bardeen and the impact of his Nobel Prize research.

John Bardeen was an American physicist and electrical engineer, the only person to have won the Nobel Prize in Physics twice: first in 1956 with William Shockley and Walter Brattain for the invention of the transistor; and again in 1972 with Leon N Cooper and John Robert Schrieffer for a fundamental theory of conventional superconductivity known as the BCS theory.

After the talk, William presented the two medals for teachers and other participants to take a look up close. This was a unique opportunity, specially having to see two Nobel Prizes that belong to same person. Many attendees were inspired by the medals.
